Our Journey between two worlds
Since 1999, our supply chain, social and environmental experts have worked between the boardroom and the field, between the worlds of people and nature, NGOs and companies, helping to bring transformation in commodity supply chains.
Transforming the garden furniture industry
Our first objective is crystal clear: to get unsustainable wood out of the furniture trade. NGO Global Witness confronts the industry for using illegal wood from Cambodia. The campaign creates the tension and momentum for change.
We help convert that tension into transformation, ensuring that sourcing responsible wood becomes standard practice for the European garden furniture industry.
We expand our work into Africa, China and Brazil, guiding operators in factories and large timber concessions but also helping connect small-scale community forests to responsible markets.
We help build capacity and start training change agents. As a result, the Centre of Social Excellence (CSE) is born, training young leaders able to change the way communities and companies interact.
Expanding our change model
A Greenpeace campaign creates the momentum for change this time… We help Nestlé commit to No Deforestation, expanding our work in palm oil and pulp and paper.
Nestlé’s leadership inspires others to follow. Golden Agri-Resources, the world’s second largest palm oil plantation company, signs up to work with us to devise and implement their No Deforestation commitment.
We help pulp and paper giant and NGO target APP lead the most far-reaching transformation process in the industry. They are followed by Wilmar, the world’s biggest palm oil producer, and then Cargill, the US’s biggest palm oil importer… We reach the tipping point.
The demonstrated leverage and impact of our change model leads us to expand our work into a total of 13 different commodities.
