THE ISSUE
Following a report by Greenpeace (‘Slaughtering the Amazon') and in response to existing member requests, TFT has expanded its scope to investigate and find solutions to environmental and social issues surrounding leather products. As reported by Greenpeace the expansion of cattle ranching is one of the main causes of deforestation in the Amazon, in fact cattle ranches occupy about 80% of the 70 million hectares of rainforest that has been cleared.

We are currently working with a number of European retailers, mapping their shoe supply chain to answer the following questions - these issues also exist in other leather products, such as handbags, belts and gloves.
