Brazilian TFT member Rondobel has achieved FSC certification for its forest and its sawmill activities.
Rondobel manages 16,000 hectares of natural forest in the west of Para State and operates a sawmill in Belem with a production capactiy of 10,000m3 per year. In December 2011, Rondobel was audited by IMAFLORA against the FSC standard, and in June 2012 it was issued with a FSC certificate (RA-FM/COC-005959).
Rondobel and TFT have been working together since 2008, initially through TTAP to achieve legality verification. Rondobel became the first company in Brazil to do so, reaching Verified Legal Origin (VLO) status in September 2010. Following this success, Rondobel became a TFT member in 2011 to achieve its aspiration of securing FSC certification to gain additional brand credibility in the marketplace. Having recently acquired a new concession of 19,000 hectares in the State Forest of Mamuru-Aruipins, Rondobel will continue to work closely with TFT towards achieving FSC certification for this concession in the first quarter of 2013.
Rondobel’s certification confirms its commitment to sustainability as part of its core values – it is now considered to be operating at the highest standard of forest management. The company is well placed to maintain market access, with Europe providing customers seeking assurances of legality and sustainability required by the EUTR coming into force in March 2013.
