Indonesian forest concessionaire company and TFT member PT. Salaki Mandiri Sejahtera (SMS) has successfully achieved Verification of Legal Origin (VLO).

SMS, located in Sarmi, Papua, started working with TFT through TTAP in Autumn 2010 for technical support towards legality verification. After the initial Gap Assessment, SMS implemented the Action Plan through a number of facilitation and training visits to close out the gaps identified in the 79,130 ha of natural forest to comply with the legality standard and prepare the company for the independent audit.


In October 2011, SmartWood of Rainforest Alliance audited SMS against the Verified Legal Origin (VLO) standard, and in May 2012 SMS received the SmartWood VLO verification statement: RA-VLO-005724.  The statement is valid from 25 April 2012 to 24 April 2015.
