(KHJL) Koperasi Hutan Jaya Lestari
Located near Kendari, in the South Konawe District, SE Sulawesi Province, TFT began working with the KHJL (Koperasi Hutan Jaya Lestari) toward FSC certification of community-managed teak in 2004. The KHJL successfully achieved FSC certification in 2005. TFT continued to support the KHJL cooperative to maintain their FSC certificate. Additionally in December 2008, KHJL received a license to rehabilitate 4,640 hectares of degraded government teak plantation. In 2009, TFT worked closely with KHJL to develop their forest management plan for the area, and were officially recognized by the local government as approved Facilitators for KHJL in community forest management.
The KHJL is run by community staff and answers to a member-elected management body. It was founded with an initial membership of 196 individuals covering 152 ha and has now grown to over 760 members and an area of 750 ha.
KHJL achieved FSC certification in May 2005, and is working towards maintaining the certification.
