Timber Trade Action Plan

Managed by TFT in partnership with a number of European Timber Trade Federations, the Timber Trade Action Plan (TTAP) is a project funded by the European Union that aims to reduce the trade in illegal wood products and contribute to sustainable forest management.

sawmillTFT helps companies and communities deliver responsible products. Within this broad remit, TFT manages the Timber Trade Action Plan that aims to ensure that only legally verified timber products are traded in Europe. TFT helps companies on the path to responsibility starting with the legality of their timber products.

TTAP provides training, advice and technical support to companies working towards legality verification of their supplies and helps establish timber tracking systems that allow companies to trace their wood from the forest, through processing factories and on to the export destination in the EU.

Timber and wood products entering the EU market can then be verified legal by third party auditors thanks to

  • Extensive coaching in legality
  • Strengthened supply chains
  • Effective chain of custody (CoC) systems

This brings TTAP companies to the forefront of market developments, enabling them to anticipate the changing requirements of EC legislation and public procurement policies and adapt their practices to comply ahead of time.
